 "Life is long journey between human being and being humane" is probably one of the most vague open-ended questions. The examiner wants to explore the nature of human beings in the society, on how long the human beings take to really appreciate of being humane and tries to become one. 

   

     Human beings evolved million years ago. During his evolution, he had to come across many hurdles and challenges starting from protecting and defending himself from the wildlife, gathering food, survival from the natural disasters, enduring progeny, providing shelter and so on. One can argue that these would mean the technological advances, rational and logical thinking of humans, but it is intrinsic that the challenges mentioned above wouldn't have been possible by the action of a single individual. This leads us to the study of society.

    Human beings are social animals, meaning there cannot be one individual who can survive without the help or the assistance of another. Hence this dependency is one of the main reasons for human beings to become socially accustomed in a society. This doesn't mean humans lived devoid of animals and birds. Apart from relying on them for food, they played an important role in the development of human being as a social being. The relationship is mutual, meaning both benefited from the union. This is the starting point of the humane nature of human beings.

    The culmination of the process of human becoming humane happened only after the humans started educating themselves. This has helped humans to show fellow feeling towards people irrespective of caste, creed, religion and sex. Compassion towards the disadvantaged population has been the prime mover in dissolving the differences in the recent times. India's culture and heritage has always spoken about such qualities. Many evidences starting from the Ashoka's Dhamma to the Tirukkural has spoken about, it has been pressed in the minds of people since time immemorial.

    All said, it only takes an individual to express the affection towards other life. While education can only show the way forward, the action depends solely on the individual. An educated individual can take a lifetime when an uneducated can express even in the childhood. Materialistic life destructs such good qualities into shatters, while the philanthropy can help in rebuilding.
